Zzzzzzzz (Respite from the Smelly Lounge)

Staffing week, maybe my last.

Staffing week, for a department chair in the type of college where I work, comprises 15-hour days in the run-up to each semester, and keeps me from my loves: a good movie, a good steak, and writing that keeps the black dog at bay.

I'm going to New York in March to deliver an essay about my teaching. Why the Composition Convention keeps choosing the most expensive venues in the most expensive cities (the Hilton on Sixth Avenue? Good gracious!; last year was the Palmer House in Chicago) escapes me. Would it kill them to hold their conventions in cheaper venues, like Lubbock, or at least cheaper-but-still-nice venues, like Austin or Memphis or Long Beach?

Anyway, what I've been thinking lately is that there should be more teaching, more writing, and a lot less of Staffing Week. Be that as it may, SunDevil Joe, Robbie-Boy, Astro-Girl, Chumley Felix, Cahill, I suggest we meet back here after the Patriots game on Sunday.

Are you sure you guys want to meet after the Bolts vs Pats game? It's gonna be a soggy one, so be careful not to cry on your keyboards.

Reasons Why Pats fans will be sad:
1) The two best athletes in the NFL play for S.D. on both sides of the football. L.T. and Shawne Merriman. Nuff said.
2) You *can* teach an old dog new tricks. I'm speaking of Marty Shottenheimer. He's gotten out the way of his own conservative play calling and that my friend should do the trick. I hope. I pray.
3) S.D. Offensive line
4) S.D. Defensive line

To be honest I'm scared to the bejeezus about this game. It's the biggest game of the year and just might be the Chargers most important game ever.

I'm worried about SD's pass defense. If given the time Brady could pick it apart.

There's no better way to win the Super Bowl than by playing the best.

You know who this is from.

GO BOLTS!!

Sleep tight Patriots. Nothing like advancing in the playoffs... knowing you got beat. Should be gravy from here on out.

Please join me in singing the Charger National Anthem. Sing it with me now. For old times sake.

"San Diego Super Chargers,

San Diego Chargers!

San Diego Super Chargers,

San Diego Chargers!

Charge!

We're coming your way,

We're gonna dazzle you with our play.

The time has come,

You know we're shooting for No. 1.

With thunderbolts and lightning,

We'll light up the sky.

We'll give it all we've got, and more,

With the Super Charger try!

(Chorus)

We've got a plan,

We're gonna do it for our super fans.

All we seek,

Is the goal line to victory.

We'll ignite you, excite you,

With high-voltage play.

We won't let up a minute,

We're going all the way – all the way!

(Chorus)

We're coming your way,

With the Super Chargers' play.

We're coming at you,

Now we're coming through!"

Don't be like LT....lose with class......

Anonymous said...

LT is all class. The Pats must have done something really wrong to make him react like that.

You know LT is all class. The whole world knows it.

Hey you can take the kid out of Compton but not....awww nevermind. I like LT but he wasn't the problem.

Marty challenging the obvious fumble costing them a time out and relying on man coverage in the final minutes. He was outcoached by a guy wearing a cut-off sweatshirt.

Bolts will be back....Robbie-Boy

Outcoached? Honestly, is that what you really believe? Fumbles, dropped passes, dropped interceptions, a fumbled punt, not dragging a toe on a long bomb for another six points, a personal foul, the list goes on, and not one of them points to Marty being outcoached when it came to x's and o's. Marty can't make the plays for them. Players made critical mistakes, period.

Having another time out at the end of the game guarantees the Chargers nothing.

Compton? Really now. LT's surly reaction at the finish was a reaction to the way the Patsies rubbed it in.

--------------------------------
ESPN-Tomlinson yelled and pointed at the Patriots player, upset that some Patriots were dancing on the Chargers logo at midfield.

"I would never react in that way. I was very upset," Tomlinson said. "When you go to the middle of our field and start doing the dance Shawne Merriman is known for, that is disrespectful. They showed no class and maybe that comes from the head coach."
-------------------------------

Who's from Compton now?

The Patriots were lucky to outlast The Bolts. Slow and steady wins the race. You can't beat the best when you're not perfect. It's like beating the Yankees(the good teams), the Celtics(The good teams)and the Patriots. You have to play perfect. If you don't you lose.

Sincerely,
Sleepless in Scottsdale
