Liveblogging California 50th

The half-a-bellwether. Duke Cunningham's old stomping ground. Supposedly the testing area for the Dems' "culture of corruption offensive," the mechanism by which the Dems expect to pick up at least one chamber.

Early results, courtesy of The San Diego voting site:

11.4% in

Brian Bilbray (R) 50.60%

Francien Busby (D) 42.66%

Busby was supposedly hurt by a comment last week directed at, ahem, illegals: "You don't need papers to vote."

San Diego is solid red, pro-close-the-border district. This must not have gone over well.

Still, the night is young. Just ask President Kerry.

10:39: The sainted Soxblog perfectly captures the sentiment pushed on the MSM by the Dems:

Anyway, many political seers have declared the race in California’s 50th to be portentous with national implications. If Democrat Francine Busby wins, the conventional wisdom holds, it heralds an oncoming Democrat tsunami in November. If Republican Brian Bilbray wins, it means nothing.

10:58: This from a KosKid:

I haven't felt like this since I worked for Carter's re-election! It feels... good!

Think about that one.

11:07 (should mention: all times Central: I'm told at Lucianne that a better site is at NBCSanDiego. Results are the same, though.

11:45: Nice to see Melky Cabrera win #1 Web Gem on ESPN.
I'm turning into Josh on "West Wing": Where are those NUMBERS!

Midnight: Not the first story (the Dow), not the second (catch-and-release). I've about lost my patience.

12:12: five stories thus far, no CA-50. No updates. I'm about ready to declare the night a bomb.

Then again, Robert Kennedy, Jr. is about ready to talk about the "stolen" 2004 election. So I'll hang.

12:27: Good Lord, this makes Florida 2000 seem like a rush to judgment.

13.2% in.

Brian Bilbray (R) 50.33%

Francien Busby (D) 43.24%

Can you feel the excitement?

12:44:

20% in

Brian Bilbray (R) 50.52%

Francien Busby (D) 43.35%

Meanwhile, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is on Fox, still complaining about how the 2004 election was stolen.

The first thing out of his mouth was, "There have been 22 lawsuits" re Ohio 2004.

I wonder: How many lawsuits have been filed against the Kennedy family? Is a lawsuit a proof of wrongdoing?

Second: Just a matter of taste, but my God, RFK Jr. sure has a whiney voice.

But my momma sure loved his daddy.
