I was operating in an environment in which the ONLY explanation for concealing someone's identity in an incident of this nature was his/her status as a Muslim.
In Canada, Great Britain, and North Carolina, authorities have actually bragged about not using the term "Muslim" to describe Muslim terrorists.
This seemed a piece with all of that.
I said if there was another explanation, I wanted to hear it.

Yeah: He shot himself in the face and had no ID. The police were just being overly cautious.

It was never my conclusion.
