Yanks 1, Devil Rays 0

In which Wright, Proctor, Kyle and Mo retire the last 18 Fish in a row.

With apologies to the best two or three Unit starts, and the best two or three Moose starts, this was the best-pitched game of the year, group-effort wisecracks notwithstanding.

These are the games the Yanks have to win, folks.

Can you imagine if Dotel returns healthy?

The Yanks could become a pitching staff of 6-7 innings of Moose, Wang and Unit. Followed by a rotation of 4-5 inning type pitchers and a bunch of middle and late relievers.

We need Cano and Damon to return healthy and finish strong and Giambi/Jeter/A-Rod to continue doing what they've been doing.

And a REALLY great trade-deadline player. But will that players be a starter (D-train?) or a big bat?

Will Cashman get the big green light from the Boss or stay put?

I think they're a bat short. Jacque Jones? It's hard, because the cut line for contenders in the National League is about .500, which means Atlanta, Philly, Washington, Chicago and Pittsburgh are the only NL sellers (Florida and Arizona, I think, are stockpiling their talent). In the AL, Baltimore with Tejada (they say they're not selling) and Minnesota with Hunter (same) seem to be the only markets. I mean, Tampa? KC? Who is the world do they even have?

Yes, there's always Soriano. But they might have to break the Piggy bank: either Wang, Melky or Cano (and they'd be foolish) or else prime prospect Hughes.

I think it has to be a bat. I must admit, I sometimes cringe when I look at the bottom of the order. I also think that Soriano is the best case scenario. He's gone from D.C.(free agent) after this year and he now has the flexibility of 2nd Base or the OF.
